How Middag works

A smart family dinner planner that learns your taste, respects your schedule, and gets better every week.

🚀
Getting started
1
Tap ✦ Plan week The AI plans 7 authentic dinners — Italian, Asian, Nordic, Mediterranean — rotated across the week. Quick meals Mon–Thu for sports evenings, something more relaxed at the weekend.
2
Select your cooking days Tap the checkbox on each day you're actually cooking. Only those days appear in your shopping list.
3
Go to Shopping Your ingredients for the selected days appear sorted by category — produce, meat, dairy, pantry. Pantry staples you've marked are hidden automatically.
4
Tap 📋 Share Sends the list to your iPhone Notes (or iMessage, WhatsApp). In Notes, select all and tap the checklist button to make every item tappable at the shop.
💡 Tip: Use −/+ in the header to adjust portions. All ingredient quantities scale automatically.
🍽
Meals tab
Different recipe Expand a card and tap to get a fresh suggestion for that day only — same cuisine slot, different dish.
🔒 + Add meal Type any dish name and pick a day. It gets locked — regenerating won't overwrite it.
Save a meal Tap the star to save a dish. Saved meals get suggested in future weeks automatically.
🍳 Cook tonight Opens a full cooking view with step-by-step instructions and built-in timers. Screen stays on.
👍 Rate the meal 👍 Kids loved it or 👎 Not a hit. The AI remembers and adjusts future plans accordingly.
🙋 What can I eat? If the family is having chicken but you don't eat it, tap this for a quick personal alternative.
💡 Select days: Tap the small checkbox on the left of each card to include that day in your shopping list and share.
🧠
How it gets smarter
Ratings build a preference profile Every 👍/👎 vote is remembered. The AI gradually leans toward cuisines and styles the family enjoys and steers away from what didn't land.
No repeats across weeks The History tab stores your last 8 weeks of meals. The AI reads this every time you plan and avoids repeating the same dishes.
🌿
Seasonal produce The app knows it's spring in Stockholm. Meals are adjusted for what's in season — lighter dishes and fresh produce in summer, warming braises in winter.
♻️
Leftover logic After planning, if Sunday is a roast, the app asks if you'll have leftovers. Say yes and Monday's meal is planned to use them up.

Pantry & settings
1
Mark your staples Tap ingredients you always have at home — olive oil, soy sauce, eggs, pasta etc. They'll be hidden from your shopping list automatically.
2
Add your own pantry items Type anything specific to your kitchen — a spice mix, a sauce, anything you never need to buy.
3
What I don't eat Describe your personal dietary restrictions at the bottom of the Pantry tab. Used when you tap "🙋 What can I eat instead?" on a meal card.
💡 Budget mode: Toggle it on from the Meals tab after planning. The next plan will favour cheaper cuts — chicken thighs, lamb shoulder, canned fish, seasonal veg.

🍳
